Summary
 
To provide full HR services to internal client groups and assist other Layton HR staff in fulfilling the department’s mission. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
 
  • Lead and support internal investigations working directly with HRDs to ensure all requirements are met. Investigate employee complaints as warranted to ensure appropriate and fair resolution.  Work with internal and external legal counsel (when appropriate).
  • Advise and work with leaders on the use of employee discipline techniques, processes, and documentation; follow up on employee issues to ensure appropriate and fair resolution and documentation is complete.
  • Coordinate performance evaluation schedule and work with managers to ensure evaluations are conducted effectively and in a timely fashion; when necessary, work with management to coordinate development of or changes to performance evaluation tools.
  • Counsel supervision regarding hiring process requirements.
  • Recruit, screen applicants for qualifications and prepare job offers letters in coordination with hiring manager. 
  • Serve as first point of contact for employee benefits questions.
  • Monitor, counsel, and train supervision regarding compliance with state and federal employment law.
  • Work with management to identify training needs and assist with program design as needed.
  • Recommend changes in Human Resources policies and procedures that will improve employee performance and satisfaction.
  • Work with management of strategic business units to ensure that position descriptions are current, complete and in a consistent format.
  • Conduct professional and administrative employee exit interviews for feedback on company relations.
  • Respond to federal and state agencies regarding employment matters and assist in representing the company at hearings with these agencies.
  • Coordinate drug screening and job function testing through the HR Analyst, including set up of providers in out-of-state locations.
  • Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.  Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety. 
  • Accept accountability for both individual and team performances.
  • Must be able to present training material on HR and management topics. 
  • Other related duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Must possess a high level of emotional intelligence and political savvy.
  • Our ideal candidate will have an understanding of the construction industry.
  • Must be a strong team player, willing to support our family culture and have fun too!
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience plus 3 years minimum generalist experience.
  • Ability to write reports, policies, business correspondence and procedure manuals. 
  • Must possess strong communication skills (verbal and written).   
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and/or the public regarding all areas of HR. 
  • Basic personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, Internet searching, etc.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional and law journals, technical procedures, and government regulations. 
  • Prioritize, organize, and delegate assignments.
  • PHR certification preferred.
